Truth or Rumor About Buist Acceptance?

Sources say that Buist Academy has accepted a student who lives on Daniel Island (that's in Berkeley County, for you dummies). The student has been accepted from the District 20 list.

Wasn't that nonsense supposed to have stopped?

Oh, well. It is a county-wide magnet. Who's to say which county?

The nonsense hasn't stopped and probably won't as long as Greg Meyers is on the board and Sallie Ballard is the principal at Buist "in charge" of residency verification.
Evidently, Thomas Anderson's parents own property downtown, but according to reliable sources, they clearly live on Daniel Island.
It reminds me of George Kefalos using his ex-wife's address to get his kid in, while he lived on Folly Beach.
Sniff, sniff...I smell Mark Brandenburg. I bet he's ready to post a rebuttal as I'm writing this.

If they are divorced what difference does it make if the kid uses the mother's downtown address and the father lives at Folly? I don't understand.

I do agree that this Daniel Island situation is out of hand. I don't know about those people but I know other folks on Daniel Island with kids at Buist. I never thought about the fact that it isn't Charleston County.

Aren't the schools suppose to be pretty good on Daniel's Island? I don't know just asking... but if they are why send your kid all the way downtown. As far as I'm concerned Buist isn't all that. The teachers are great for the most part but so are other schools teachers. The administration and guidance is simply useless at Buist. I'd send my child to a neighborhood school if we didn't live where we do and not to Buist. I wish in Charleston I could do that, but I can't. I feel fortunate my child could get in, but now after 6 years I'm ready to be done with it.

My advice if you are in a good school district stay there and don't even think of Buist. It's not worth it in the long run.
