Can you imagine what your child's report card would look like if you let him design it? Then why would the Charleston County Schools Board of Trustees allow the Superintendent whom they are evaluating to design her own report?
It's report card time for Nancy McGinley over the next couple of weeks, but she need not worry. The report-card deck is stacked so much in her favor that even if all members of the Board vote against her, she still gets a passing score.
But they won't all vote against her. Approval will follow the 5 to 4 pattern established since the last election. Watch while they give her a raise, too. In fact, the Board is stacked with bootlickers recruited by her cronies, who when asked to jump, respond, "How high?"
Only another election with candidates who represent taxpayers' interests instead of McGinley's will settle this farce.

The "staff" evaluates the superintendent. Sure, but that would be limited to senior staff like Michael Bobby and Bill Lewis. I don't think they will bite the hand that feeds them. Teachers and lower level staff have no say in Nancy McGinley's performance review. As for parents and the community, forget it.
The entire evaluation process for the superintendent is a scam designed to automatically give her an annual performance bonus. Tell that to the teachers who haven't seen a raise in 3 years.
How about the thousand page "Look At Me" promotional binder McGinley had staff put together to support her performance evaluation? She includes Op-Ed pieces where she and her supporters trash her critics, but she conveniently excludes any negative editorials or bad press reports. That may explain why she increased her communications office stff to 8 employees with major paid raises and can only hire 3 internal auditors to follow the money and investigate internal corruption. Her communications director Elliott Smalley then has the audacity to suggest it will take more money to hire more staff to check addresses at the magnet schools. We deserve this kind of abuse if a majority of Charleston taxpayers and parents continue to think this is normal behavior.
Too true. Why do board members tolerate this kind of manipulation? The public doesn't understand what is going on when Joe Riley and others fall all over themselves singing her praises. And for what? She thinks progress is for more kids entering 9th grade to be able to read at the 4th grade level. No wonder the graduation rate is still deplorable.
