FOIA Reveals McGinley's Duplicity--Too Late

While the five Charleston County School Board Trustees celebrate their narrow victory extending the superintendent's tenure, the natives continue to be restless, especially on Sullivan's Island.

After a five-and-a-half month delay (gee, we wonder why) smaller-school proponents on Sullivan's Island got a look at the "supposed '1000 Signatures'" held up for show and tell by Superintendent McGinley at a recent school board meeting.

Are you ready? Can you guess what's about to come?

Of the "just Sullivans Island signatures" (McGinley's words) only 372, a bit more than one third actually had Sullivans Island addresses, some of those addresses being island restaurants.

Checked against current voter registration lists for SI, the number dropped to 265. Of those, 71 later signed the petition for a town referendum for a smaller school.

That leaves potentially only 194 signatures in favor of McGinley and Lewis's plan--and 277 registered voters have signed the petition for a referendum.

No wonder the district sat on the FOIA request for so long. It needed to get past the superintendent's evaluation before releasing it. Nuff said.

When you look below the surface of much of what Nancy McGinley is saying, there is no substance.

The duplicity and bullying of Ms. McGinley and her inner circle is intolerable. With more revelations of just how extensive this type of official malfeasance is throughout CCSD, how long will it be before outside investigations are called for? Downtown and North Charleston may have rolled over under pressure from the superintendent, but with more organized political clout, Sullivan's Island and East Cooper appear to be fighting back.

Good facts and sound data can easily trump attempts by school district officials to paint pretty pictures. Unfortunately, as this example illustrates, the superintendent is doing everything she can to restrict the release of the facts.

The problem with anonymous comments is that it looks like graffiti on a public washroom wall. The post may allow the writer to vent, but it doesn’t do much for expanding anyone else’s understanding of the facts.

Agreed. Even a webname used consistently would be helpful.

How did she get another year? My wife works in an elementary school. More and more is being expected of them of course on their own hours. The Principal was the one here who--- well read --- www.wltx.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=10110.
The one before stole money. What a mess. Basically they hire nonprofessionals and friends. They bully and threaten. Teachers have the worst possible jobs and have been told no subs after 4 days.(come sick or else) Administration and staff of course can miss more as they get no sub s! Why don't district workers sub? They get no bathroom breaks as meetings take up all free time. They eat with students and literally are expected to work miracles. They have to do the work of 10 people and still smile. Their pay hasn;t gone up in 3 years and no increase of cost of living. They lost money two years to furlough days.
Yet pay raises and friend hires seem to be the norm. The district needs an outside audit.
So spend a day in my wife;s shoes:
get up at 5
get kids ready
get to school at 6:30
rush to bring up computer as it is shut down nightly.
Rush to do work and printing making sure to go to the b-room
7 ish students arrive needy and without supplies or homework
morning teach on your feet 2 hours
get observed
kids go to a special area
wow 45 minutes
except you have a meeting for all 45
pick kids up
hold bladder and pray
teach 1 hour
lunch take monitor and try to eat while watching kids
time to eat 3 minutes in peace nope make that 1 minute
go to take kids to b-room
wait you can't go just the kids
teach two hours
take to recess
watch all for safety in all directions
be a nurse for all injuries
listen to all questions 100 plus daily
grade papers
do bus duty
go to 2 hour meeting
grade more
copy
lesson plans
attempt to take carstart over of own kids
crazy
and get no pay raise
ridiculous
what other job has you watch, teach, nurse, listen to,organize, grade, meet, etc for 25 others
you have no idea!
McGinley should be graded by teachers only.
