How Does CCSD Attorney Earn Salary?

Is it fending off Freedom of Information requests?

To support its challenge to paying for classroom buildings and transportation for public school students who attend charter schools, the Charleston County School District has hired Derfner, Altman & Wilborn, a firm that knows more about constitutional law, according to John Emerson, CCSD's attorney.

Anyway, he's too busy to do trial work "because of the time commitment involved."

Or is he unqualified?

Or is he being paid $145,000 + (starting salary in May 2008) for part-time work?

With an annual salery of $145,000 or more, I'd commute from Columbia, too. This guy is so loyal to the superintendent (his only boss) that he'd work against the school board itself. He has no loyalty or responsibility to anyone here but Nancy. That's why he doesn't even live in this part of the state. What a scam! No wonder he doesn't have time.

The cost of fighting charter schools must be costing the district millions as it is. It makes no sense. James Island Charter High and Orange Grove Charter Elementary are already doing more with less. You would think there is a lesson for the district in these two examples.I would like to know how much the school district is paying this law firm anyway.

John Emerson has been rude to me in an email. And he only deigned to answer my question (which was sent to him repeatedly) because I copied other people on it.

He is unprofessional and snide and serves as the perfect representative for CCSD.
