CCSD's Sales-Tax Advisory Committee

Confident that the taxpayers will be stupid enough to pass an additional one-percent sales tax in two weeks, the Charleston County School Board has approved the creation of a Citizens Advisory Committee to "monitor and oversee the spending of money generated by the sales tax." According to the Board, this move "will build trust and credibility with the voters."

Sorry, I just fell off my chair laughing.

Sales tax or the threatened property tax if it fails: how about a serious audit to improve that trust and create some credibility?

Ask school board candidates for their views.

Wait!
I thought CCSD was broke. My kid says they just installed light turn off censors in her downtown school. This can cost thousands per school. What! people can't throw a light switch. I thought her class was so big because of no money. Who thought up this hare-brained idea?

A sales tax advisory committee will have no more access to the facts than what the administration will allow them to have. If the elected school board members can't oversee this stuff how can we expect an unelected and appointed committee to do any better. CCSD needs an audit before they get their hands on any more OPM (other peoples money). If they don't think they need an audit then I don't think they need a new tax increase, not a sales tax or a property tax.
