An Answer on Sanders-Clyde Delay

Would you believe that "vendors who provide furniture, install fire alarms and security and set up technology and equipment were overloaded"? Thus goes Bill Lewis's excuse for the delayed opening of both Sanders-Clyde Elementary downtown and Haut Gap Middle on Johns Island. See 3 School Construction Projects Face Delays in Tuesday's paper.

You mean that the vendors that Bill Lewis contracted with were incapable of handling all of the business he gave them? So what rocket scientist scheduled all four schools (including North Charleston's renovation and the new School of the Arts) to open at the same time?

Could it be that the other schedules had slipped, and everything piled up at the end? Such thoughts are never "thunk" by reporters at the P&C. Beyond the pale.

And if Sanders-Clyde parents were told months ago that the school wouldn't be ready until February, why is the announcement of the delay in the news on January 19th?

Yes, I know, more damage control from the Charleston County School District.

Once again, the schools located in the neighborhoods with the biggest political clout, get the most attention. This isn't about counting test scores. It's about counting votes. And it's no coincidence that the next round of capital expenditures will be decided later this spring.

It's nice to know that CCSD is providing job security for so many pencil pushers like Bill Lewis. Taxpayers get ready! It will be another $500,000,000 worth of pork to spread out over the next 5 years. As for the work of Mr. Lewis over the last ten years, we have some pretty buildings with little or no connections to the communities in which they are located. But it's the lack of quality in both the buildings and the instruction that goes on in them that should rile us even more. While the rest of us pay for this boondoggle, few of us will ever see much benefit from any of it for our kids or those of our neighbors.

Keep on churning those buildings, Bill Lewis. There's gold in them thar contracts. At least there's gold for a few fat CCSD administrators.

Shoddy, but at least they'll be standing when the earthquake hits? Or not.

Of course, that will be his argument to tear down and rebuild. Bill Lewis never met an historic building he didn't prefer to see as a parking lot.

Like the last one in China, has he begun to evoke the suffering in Haiti yet? I would expect him to use it in support of the new bond issue. When he does this, it might be nice if someone would ask him what percentage of his salary has he contributed to Haitian relief.

From what Bill Lewis has said in the past, there appears to be no limit to his willingness to exploit public fears and evoke the suffering of others to support his 'tear 'em down' agenda. Nancy McGinley is working to hide school failures with a ‘mix ‘em up’ agenda. She's been sweeping her most difficult problems under the rug for years.

Between Bill Lewis and Nancy McGinley, this is a devil's marriage that will leave taxpayers and parents with a heavy bill and a massive hangover. I wonder what the divorce will cost.
