Unfairness:CCSD Principal Versus Teacher Bonuses

Three-year contracts for principals at North Charleston and Burke High Schools do make sense. However, who is really on the front line at these schools? Whose daily efforts will make or break these schools' performances in their attempts to become "average"?

The principals are receiving tens of thousands of dollars extra per year for leading these at-risk schools. Are such bonuses paid to the teachers who agree to teach there? If the schools meet the goals (set by administration) over the three-year contract period, why do the principals, not the teachers, get the bonuses? Why wouldn't sharing be fair?

This is educrat-think at its worst.

At last night's board meeting Elizabeth Moffly suggested a similar contract be offered to those responsible for the schools where a majority of the Burke and North Charleston students originate. Without doing what is necessary to prepare these students at the get go, the work only becomes harder and less likely to succeed later. Of course the board chairman and the superintendent ignored the suggestion.

I am curious why this blog refuses to address the two lawsuits filed by terminated teachers (and settled) against the most recent former principal at Charleston Charter School for Math and Science? I am also wondering why this blog has dodged the issue of this school chewing up and spitting out principals at an alarmingly fast rate. So many questions...so few answers...

Teacher bonuses? We were promised substitute money if we didn't use out measily 5 sick days last year. As of this point most teachers still have not been paid their sub pool bonuses for 2011-2012. I point out is the next school year in September.

I'm curious. What exactly is the "sub pool bonus". Never heard of that one. Also, I've heard from some employees that the district delayed implimenting the approved COLA and other raises until late August. They were supposed to be in place in July. Sounds like more nickle and diming to death by the administration against the vast majority of regular employees.

Now, now anonymous...you know you this blog can't/won't blast the almighty "charter"...blasting is reserved only for CCSD...your points remain valid and it needs to be addressed...there is more going on down there than many know....oh what a tangled web we weave...

sub pool is the money given to a school every year to pay for subs. Last year we were told only 5 days out sick or we would foot the bill. However if we didn't use all 5 we got a bonus for the unused days. The year ended in June and most teachers have not been paid the money for not using those days even though it is September of the new school year.

Who makes these decisions and who is responsible for following up on the promises made to teachers? I don't think any member of the board has a clue about this. The superintendent hasn't volunteered any information either. Sounds like the board is unaware of the results or even if the policies are being properly followed.

Hey I am waiting for my sub pay too!
Also waiting for the money they didn't give use yet for our step and raise from the paydays they missed. We got a letter about that as well. Boy payroll is way behind.

Does the county board or the local press know anything about the letter from payroll? It should have been a big deal that the COLA and step raises weren't implimented when they were should have been.

I am so thankful to be retired from teaching in Charleston County for 30 years. I do agree with what NCHS said about the feeder schools to Burke and North Charleston being held more responsible for preparing the students. This applies to the elementary schools as well as the middle schools. This help has got to start from day one in kindergarten.
