Fire Academic Magnet Principal!

After all the accusations, recriminations, lawsuits, and rumors circulating about out-of-county cheaters at Academic Magnet High School, Principal Judith Peterson "forgot" about the August 1 deadline for new students to provide proof of residency.  That means over 40 percent of its incoming freshman class have yet to show their papers.

Compare that to the statistics for the School of the Arts, only a stone's throw away: three of 225 students, or about one percent, have yet to comply.

Outraged yet?

District officials fired one of AMHS's guidance councelsors this past school year for not complying with district policies even though the employee was told by this principal to follow another directive. Ms. Peterson had no trouble throwing that person under the bus. Sounds like another CCSD double standard here.

I agree. It is a double standard.

The district demoted two guidance counselors at AMHS by moving them to other schools. They weren't fired. This still shows that the superintendent is micro managing the magnet schools. Integrity is a still a problem and the superintendent's office is a major part of that problem.

The reporter got it wrong. This is the first year that Audrey Lane has been in charge of the deadline for reporting, but this isn't the first year there has been a deadline. The Post and Courier is still just reprinting the district's news releases.

Sorry to be a little off topic with this question, but is this the only public forum out there that attempts to address local public school and education issues? Other cities seem to have public communication platforms that are widely available and well used. It would appear from what I am seeing in Charleston that few people care or the vast majority is happy with the way things are. I'm new to the area and I am appalled at how low the expectations are for Charleston's public school system.
