Tea Partier Replacement a Rubber Stamp for McGinley

After months of dilly-dallying over the selection of a replacement for elected CCSD Board of Trustees member Mary Ann Taylor, who resigned in disgust last November, our Charleston County legislative delegation labored mightily and brought forth a mouse. A mouse that claimed "tea party" credentials, you know, as a mover and shaker. Our delegation looked for someone compatible with Taylor's views. Right. Chip Campsen and friends should be ashamed.

Brian Thomas, with his meek vote to support the unpublicized sale of part of the Memminger property (exactly which part only Michael Bobby and McGinley know), has shown his true colors--as a wimp.

Mary Ann Taylor should be even more disgusted. So should all taxpayers and residents of Charleston County. The Superintendent now has a safe majority of 5 to 3 made up of trusting lackeys to do as she pleases.

Thomas plans to run for election next time around. You know what to do.

Look more closely.... he dissented on most of the rest of the votes on Monday (SOA appeal, SIES demo, SIES referendum...), siding with the Kandrac, Moffly, sometimes Collins contingent. Watching him at 3 or so meetings now, he seems clueless however. I don't get the sense that he really knows what he's voting for or against.

That's what happens when someone appointed for oversight of administration knows nothing about it. I still blame the county delegation.

So what alternatives will voters have in November? The learning curve for this school board is crazy.

Henry Copeland--he probably knows more about CCSD than Nancy McGinley.

How is it possible you were critical of Mary Ann Taylor for resigning, but support a man like Henry Copeland who also abruptly resigned? I have always held the belief that if you resigned from a held office (without sufficient reason) you should't be allowed to run for a higher office. Much more so Copeland, who seems to have made it very clear that it is a personal vendetta for him.

Personal to whom? An autocratic superintendent? Actually, I feel sorry for Taylor; she didn't realize that McGinley and her friends play hardball with personal attacks. Why was Taylor forced to hire a personal lawyer? That would be a good question to ask some of McGinley's supporters.

So you are also saying pretty much that young people who are interested in making changes in what is going on within our community need to sit down. Interesting. This guy stood up, and wants to get involved and make a change. So while yall are aitting on your rumps behind a computer critizing everything and everyone... he will be casting votes. And Henry Copeland? SERIOUSLY? A loose ignorant cannon with Only personal vendettas. But he vote him in. As if the school board isnt enough of a circus it certainly will be when he takes a seat. The problem with people like yall is that you hide behind a screen name and critisize everyone. Get off your lazy butt and run is you seem to have all of the answers. Oh but then you wouldnt have time to have a full time job raise a child, attens numerous republican meetings and sit on the school board, oh wait Brian Thomas does all that. What a mouse you all are. Is Thomas is a mouse then Copeland is a Hyena...

Did Anonymous miss something here?

Public school politics in Charleston exist within a highly charged and retaliatory environment. A free and open discussion of ideas isn't exactly what those in charge have encouraged. Just ask those who have been fired, outsourced or humiliated in public if they feel free to speak their minds. The rubber stamps on the board seem to be OK with that, but it isn't doing anything to improve access to a quality education in Charleston County.
