Chief Academic Officer Out in CCSD

Not only is Doug Gepford retiring as Chief Academic Officer of the Charleston County Schools District, he's not being replaced.

It's a start--one layer of bureaucracy removed. How about the rest?

Do more research, Babbie. You're correct that he is retiring and that the title is not being re-used. The rest of your premise is incorrect.

CCSD will actually be creating a more expensive layer of protection between the school board and McGinley.

Keep digging and you'll get some facts straight.

Interesting suggestions from Anonymous 9:34PM. Gepford was never part of the inner circle anyway. Nor was his predecessor Bynum. McGinley doesn't train her replacements or give them meaningful authority, and for a good reason. She doesn't want anyone behind her holding a knife.

I think your perception that Gepford was never part of the inner circle is most accurate. Anytime a superintendent surrounds herself with "yes" men and women she can control and alienates the people who are closest to the schools (CAO and associate superintendents), watch out! The voices of teachers just aren't heard!

Just take stock of McGinley's inner circle. Is anyone an educator? No wonder things are going so south!
