Do you think she's surprised at the controversy that arose? Maybe it was just a test to see how far she could push the new board members.
In other news. . . almost $100,000 per school will be spent on "surveillance and access-control technology," taking our local tax dollars and adding to them our federal tax dollars.
Does that strike you as a tad expensive? Don't you wonder who gets that contract?

Well it looks like this new board is asking a lot of questions as they are struggling with what to put first. Even before they sat down they said "no" to giving the Super a raise, when teachers got cuts. The Super quickly pulled that one off the table, even before it came up. Then the new board said "no" to extending her contract by another 2 years. The 2 years she got last year, added to the other 2 years she still seemed like enough. But the real kicker might have come this week when they turned down her request for redecorated administrative offices and new carpets, including $14,000 for the Super's own floor. This board is absolutly right. As long as so many schools have been pushed back on the "to do" lists, some of the stuff the Super wants for her office and the other administrators should wait.
Until there is a forensic audit, no one will know who gets the contracts or how.
I thought the school board voted to not go forward with this at its meeting last December. So tell me why they started the renovations anyway. Bill Lewis and Michael Bobby are pretty brash if they don't think they need board approval with renovations to the Taj while repairs to schools must wait. If Bill Lewis gets called on the carpet by the board again it will be interesting to see if Nancy McGinley will step in to save him one more time by saying she's responsible because he works for her. How the board handles this will say a lot about this board.
