"Dramatic" Step into the Past in CCSD

What seemed completely normal 50 or 60 years ago has returned dramatically: single-gender education. Now that virtually all schools at every level are co-ed, even the Citadel, the federal government has deemed that we may once again separate the sexes. [SeeMorningside Middle to Pioneer Dramatic Single-gender Program] I suppose that in another 50 years people will be pushing for co-ed education.

Of course, CCSD would not be making the effort without the threat of state takeover. NCLB strikes again!

Like you said, CCSD wouldn't be considering any of this if it wasn't for their having to rearrange the deck chairs...again.

Hey Babbie. I understand that CCSD is making a run at David Colwell to bring him back to North Charleston High. But rumor also has it that the Math and Science charter already has him locked up. North Chuck sure hit the skids when he and mcginley had their falling out and he went to NC.

North Charleston would be soooo happy to see him back. CSMS should be glad.

To think Mr. Colwell was passed over for the NCHS job after Mr. Mullins and, again, after Mike Peake. When he got it, McGinley and Darrell Johnson made NO promise he would even be considered for the job after he served out the last two months. They were forced to give him the job, though, after he stabilized it in a matter of weeks. What that school did under him was nothing short of a miracle. Morale was high, teacher retention exceeded 90% and EOC English 1 showed a 50% gain while Algebra 1 skyrocketed 300% in one year! CCSD had one of the most talented principals in the district and McGinley let him walk. The North Carolina high school he is at went from last to first in their EOC's (10 categories) in less than two years. I've seen the West Caldwell High School Report Card for Caldwell County and saw the state NC Teacher's Working COndition Survey. He was at 85% approval rating his first year. He is a very hot commodity right now. I heard, too, that the City of North Charleston was trying to get him to consider NCHS. Amazing...and this guy was rejected by CCSD until they were so desperate they had nobody else to turn to in order to fix NCHS. He is still missed by many of us. Thanks, McGinley. How many principals and interims since Mr. Colwell? I, too, have heard the rumor he is looking to return to Charleston.

I don't think he would come back to Charleston unless it was a charter school. He is very "out of the box." Teachers seem to love working for him because he empowers them and is very protective of them. And he is a very effective recruiter.
