It looks like a great space. No doubt it has the latest equipment. But for some residents of CCSD, the refurbished Memminger Auditorium that opens with Spoleto this week is a sad reminder of what might have been. [See Refurbished Memminger 'Like a Good Dream'].
What a loss to the school district! And for what? A few parking spaces? Let's face it. Those in control at 75 Calhoun won't be satisfied until the space now occupied by Memminger Elementary no longer belongs to the district either. It's too valuable a property to dedicate to school children, no matter how many years the land has served in that capacity.
After all, what's tradition in a city like Charleston?

The article repeatedly stated that Memminger Auditorium had been neglected for years to the point where it became an abandoned ruin. So why didn't the writer say who and what was responsible for this waste of public property? The fact is that CCSD and its facilities management team were responsible. Don't expect the Post and Courier to raise this issue. The P&C writer's children attend Buist and CCSD officials are rumored to be promising to give the rest of Memminger to Buist. What? Then they can do a private deal for the Buist property that no one at CCSD wants to fix.
With the fame increasing for the Memminger Auditorium next door, CCSD and Buist fans may find it hard to remove the school's original name, even if they do take it over once CCSD demolishes the current school. Another CCSD bait and switch in the works?
This blog has the most whiners in the world. The post could have been about lipstick and you'd find a way to gripe about Buist.
Yep, those messages written in lipstick on the student bathroom mirrors at Buist were very interesting. It was even more interesting to see how Sallie Ballard handled them.
What was written on the bathroom mirrors? Why not tell us?
6:51 - I'm sure you never did anything wrong growing up - never said something you weren't supposed to say - never did something you weren't supposed to do. I don't even know what was written....but I know that kids are kids and do really stupid things.
It wasn't so much what the students did, but how poorly Sallie Ballard responded to the challenge.
Why did it take almost 20 years and a part time resident like Spoleto to finally fix Memminger Auditorium?
How do you know what Sallie did?
