Buried in today's report of CCSD's Board of Trustees Monday-night meeting is the fact that Hilary Douglas, last year's vice chairman, and Nancy Cook, last year's chairman (and chairman for the last four years), have switched chairs. Now Douglas supposedly is in the driver's seat ["Douglas to Steer School Board"] and Cook is his co-pilot.
Recycling the past will help the future? Douglas was first elected chairman in 1989, eighteen years ago. He was on the Board starting in 1985. These were years when county schools continued unopposed in their downward slide.
What is the record in North Charleston, the area Douglas represents on the Board? Both North Charleston High School and Brentwood have records during his tenure that should cause nightmares. Has Douglas looked out for them in his 15 years on the Board?
Same old same old.

Almost every school in their district is failing and they are the one's driving this ship? That alone is enough to make someone throw up. Hillery is the biggest racist on the board with Jordon a close second. I thought these folks were getting serious about fixing our schools. They simply protect themselves. Nancy better enjoy being a democrat, because the Republicans have washed their hands of her. There is a good reason they call her Nancy Crook
Both Hillery Douglas and Nancy Cook should be voted off the board next November. I hope North Charleston will nominate and elect two new voices to replace these bozos. Though almost anyone would be an improvement, but right now we all need the best we can find to fix our schools. The partisan politics and racism of these two have to be put behind us. Two wrongs don't make a right. Vote these people out and give our schools a chance for good leadership from the county board instead.
I had to search deep for the humor on this one...
I think Diette provided us with some by stating Nancy had been asking board members for months to consider being chair...If she had "confidence" in her Vice-Chair, she wouldn't have been lobbying other board members.
As crazy as the Cook is, she knows Hillery is the craziest of them all.
What was all that about nominating both Nancy Cook and Gregg Meyers for Vice-Chair? I wonder which one was more surprised than the other? Everyone knows that Gregg Meyers doesn't need to be Chairman (or Vice-Chairman) since he pulls all the strings anyway.
Yeah, I thought that was "funny" too. You know, they're the new harmonious board, right??
I guess we had a peek that maybe everything isn't so happy in happy land after all. They usually like to have all of that settled behind close doors (or via phone conversations), right?
Why is it that the Mt. Pleasant town council gets called down for not conducting its executive sessions properly but CCSD's board doesn't? The county school board never has open discussions on anything (except maybe when Cuz Arthur's toes get stepped on). How can they vote of executive session items and not even identify what they are voting on? If Mt. Pleasant shouldn't do this, CCSD shouldn't do it either, right?
My favorite executive session item is the ongoing "contract issue" or "personnel issue". They don't bother to tell you what it is. This was done on the constituents board long ago as a way to discuss things behind closed doors that should be out front. Now the constituent boards do it right and the county board hides
I also thought Ruth nominated Greggie for chair but had no second. Did I get that wrong?
I'm just waiting for the s===to hit the fan when people realize we STILL have openings at Buist?
Of course, we know the CCSD Board doesn't care, but surely there are some parents out there WAITING who care, right??
What I found most interesting was "Crook's" comments that she wanted to slow down on her last year of her last term. Someone make a CD of that and let's hold her to her word. Oh, what am I talking about only Nancy believes Nancy!
I would dance in the streets if I knew this was her last term! Can we pretend it's Hillery's last term, too?
