Jerry, We Hardly Knew Ye!

Tonight's Channel 5 News reported the departure of Jerry Adams as Communications Director for CCSD, confirming some prior speculation from commenters on this blog.

Well, maybe now Jerry can say what he really thinks. Or, maybe not, if he wants a job recommendation.

Jerry, we hope you will continue to play "Devil's Advocate" for us once in a while. It's been educational.

So was he fired? Has a replacement been named? Any guesses about who it might be?

I guess we can watch as one by one the guard is changing. This is only speculation but I wonder if the dead wood of this massive tree called CCSD is finally being trimmed. If they want to save money, then the top heavy and padded administrative offices might be the right place to start. We could only hope that it will eventually include a review of those who have "administered down" to District 20 for so long. If inner city schools could excell anywhere in the US, it would be here, if only we could change the attitude of those who have stood in the way. Bye, Jerry. It's been real.

Oh well Jerry...you will always be number 2.

The word on the street was that as soon as Goodloe's departure was a sure thing and once her replacement was secured, Jerry was given notice. It was a meeting of the minds between the board's leadership and the new administration that jointly arrived at this conclusion to replace him. It was not necessarily a show of force by the new super, if the word on the street is correct.

In one of J.G.Ballard's novels set in a Japanese POW camp, his character Bassie, a rather sleazy but pragmatic survivor, advised his young protege, Jamie Graham, to be careful of what he wished for as the allies closed in. The most dangerous period is the time "in between", when the jailers are no longer in control but neither are the long hoped for liberators. It's dangerous. Rules change. There will be lots of bodies. According to Bassie, it's the time to keep your head down.

Hopefully this transition will mark a liberation and not just the beginning of another occupation.

Is Jerry taking Janet Rose with him?

Wow - 10:59 poster - you took the words right out of my mouth!
Let's keep those fingers crossed on that one.
Maybe even Sallie Ballard, too???

Oh, and Earl Choice, too. Never meet a person so willing to teach down to District 20 kids and who is so focused on school scores while ignoring students.

Thanks for the meoriea, ya'll. I am sure the new administration will serve you well.

Hey Babbie.

Yep it's true. Channel 5 got it right, I think. I am not sure what the future holds, but I will be around. My email address is jeradams@comcast.net if anybody in your blog-world wants to find me. Just checked in here to see if I warranted a Babbie notice. You didn't let me down. I will be less interested in school issues no doubt so I won't be a regular visitor. But I will stop by from time to time. Have fun. Jerry

Jerry was never interested in school issues except for covering his boss's rear. He has a long history of obstruction and was just as abrasive as his former boss. His title as Director of Communications and Public Information was almost Orwellian in that he often did anything but. I hope his replacement is more sensitive to laws regarding public information, the intent and purpose of those laws and the value of keeping the public informed. He could have avoided a lot of headaches (mainly his own) if he had demonstrated a greater awareness of these concerns.

That position was vacated for McGinley to hire Arthur's long time pal, Clara Heinsohn. This was a deal worked out months ago that he would play nice with Nancy Cook if Clara was given that job. Heinsohn has already shared dinner with McGinley. Who said politics isn't corrupt?!!!!!!!!

What are Clara Heinsohn's qualifications?

found on the web:
"SC State Senate Education Committee Senior Analyst Clara Heinsohn", "Clara Heinsohn, [State Senator John] Courson's K-12 research director", " Clara Heinsohn, a 4th grade teacher", or "Clara Heinsohn, Research Director for Sen. John Courson, Chairman of the [Education Committee]". Take your pick. I'm all ears.

Adams had already been told he was history but then when he saw McGinley on the beach with her girl friend ( roommate) he stupidly said, shouldn't you be at work..... and the rest as they say is history. But, he has Janet to support him. Just like a pimp!

I do believe as an employee with CCSD, Nancy McGinely will not be here in charleston the length of her contract. CCSD is too political with its decision making and you can clearly see that with the recent resignation of Jerry Adams and the hiring of the a board member's friend. Positions are being created for board members friends. Something Goodloe-Johnson did not allow. G-J was a rigid for procedures and she did not allow the board to do whatever they wanted. Nancy has started off wrong.

I can't wait to see how this all turns out.

G-J stuck to rules and policies when it suited her. She made many mistakes. She preached "coherent curriculum" with everyone in every school almost giving the image that everyon is to be on the same page at the same moment, like a French farce. For herself she made up the rules as she went along. Just ask parents how she dealt with checking the Buist address cheats even after they presented her with the evidence she requested. She would usurp authority, instead of building support, saying it was an emergency or that constituent boards were obstructing the process. She did what she wanted. Look at all the last minute appointments for friends she made in her final months, even as she was planning to leave. The new superintendent is going to have to make do with some of these for a while. At least with McGinley, it isn't likely that she would be pushing her relatives into positions. If the appointment of the new communications director is a friend of Sen. Ravenel, and it becomes a problem, then let Sen. Ravenel take the heat. Dr. McGinley should be well aware by now of how hot the political fires burn in Charleston. She must believe she can handle it or she would have been out of here before now. I'm willing to give her a chance. Time will tell us more.

Did you give Goodloe Johnson a chance?

Anonymous said...

Yes, a lot of people gave her a chance, a lot of chances. But did she give them a chance? She proved early on that she could be cold and profoundly deaf to people and concerns she didn't value. She had already made up her mind before she arrived what ALL the issues were. She was briefed by those who issued her a contract and she wasn't going to burden herself with anything more. She made it clear that she had no patience for anyone who didn't know that she was driving the only bus in town. You could either get on it and sit down or you would become road kill. Those were the only two choices anyone had with her. A real professional. A nice lady. She was a hired gun.
