Behind CCSD's IPAD Revolution

One small "post office" store in West Ashley has packaged and shipped over 100 damaged IPADs to the manufacturer for repairs or replacement. The cost is about $5 per pad. The customer is CCSD.

Don't you wonder where these costs are hidden in the budget?

Lots of hoopla over giving i-pads to the students at Drayton Hall this past year. What they didn't tell us was the support system crashed when they went on-line with so many units. They completely overloaded the school's undersized internet server. The super's office was all about the hype over the new technology but she and her staff didn't tell us how much more it would cost to expand the support system...they didn't even tell the board until after the fact. So much for full disclosure. It was a classic sales hook to the board by giving out only the initial cost of the i-pads. Once again, CCSD officials witheld facts on the full costs that included infrastructure upgrades. Again, poor planning.

Well, six board seats are up for grabs. Where do the 12 candidates stand on this?

School improvement federal grant (SIG) funds this. Not the "budget"

Drayton Hall's internet infrastructure upgrade wasn't paid for through a SIG grant. To the best of my knowledge, Drayton Hall didn't receive any SIG funding as a School Improvement Grant which was designed to target at-risk schools. Please correct me if this is wrong.
